dedicated to providing a great musical experience for students, educators, and players at all levels

Welcome to Wind Works

Temporarily Closed for Corona Season

A message to our customers during the pandemic:

3/24/20 – The governor has issued a stay home, stay safe order, and we agree! We’ll see you on the other side.

3/23/20 – In just three days, Whatcom County’s COVID-19 case load has gone from 10 people (3/20/20) to 48 people (3/23/20). Based on how fast the virus is spreading and the best practices recommended by county, state and federal health departments, we have decided to close the store to customers for now. While we are not legally required to do so yet, we feel that this is the current best choice to maintain safety for our customers and employees. Geez, we’re going to miss you in the meantime.

Ed and Kat will still be stopping by daily to take care of the ReStore cats, water plants, and check in on stuff, but the majority of our employees are going to be working from home as they are able, or going on temporary unemployment for now. They will still have jobs when this is over.  Thank you for your concern about them. We have fielded many questions and much love from you all for them, and we make sure to pass it along.

If you are looking to support us during the closure, our Reverb store is still active, check it out here:

If you absolutely can’t wait, and have an urgent need, make an appointment to see us in person.  To make an appointment, please message us via email (, send us a Facebook Message, or call 360-733-5840 and leave us a message. Please allow 24 hours for us reply.

Thank you for your cooperation and concern.
We WILL see you on the other side. Hang in there.

Harp Fest 2020

Events for Harp Fest 2020 have been postponed until further notice. We hope to reschedule these at a later date. Thank you for your continued support.

Our store is a music shop, dedicated to musicians of all levels. As a part of the Fountain District and greater Bellingham music community, we love to talk to people face-to-face, and meet our customers. For the best experience, we invite you to visit us in person. We want to get to know you, and while scrolling through a website can give you the start of a good idea of who we are, nothing compares to trying out an instrument in person, getting personal help from our experts, and making real connections. If you know what you want, you can call ahead and we can have your purchase, rental or repair ready for you.  And if you can’t make it down to the store, we are always available by phone, Facebook message, or email, and we can work something out.  Come on down, we’d love to see you.

From slide trumpet to contrabass sax, we see all kinds of instruments pass through our shop! Our techs are invested in making sure you understand your estimate and will go the extra mile to ensure that you are heard both on and off the stage. We want your instrument to work as well as you want it to, and have the skills and experience necessary to make that happen, so that you leave satisfied.

Whether you’re just starting out in orchestra, or need a harmony horn in your next show, we have what you need at an affordable price. Click the “rentals” tab at the top of the page to get started.

Instruments galore! Our showroom has instruments from brass and woodwinds, to recorders, classical strings, mariachi, gypsy jazz, dulcimers and more. From basics to bling, we also have all the accessories you need.  We carry sheet music, cases, and all accessories for wind instruments, strings (orchestral, mariachi and all fretted), percussion and more.

  • Wind Works is, hands down, the best repair shop I know Ed is extremely knowledgeable, kind and helpful. He has cheerfully adapted his schedule to meet ferry times for people from the San Juan islands who request same-day service. Ed is very up-front about what he can do. Even better, he’s great at telling customers what they absolutely need to do to render their instruments functional, and what can wait until the next service.

  • Edward DeVaney is a most meticulous repair artisan for all woodwind instruments, including sarrusophones! Ed’s overhauls of oboes, oboes d’amore, and English horns rivals overhauls by any of the top oboe repair specialists in North America. Wind Works is an amazing resource to have here in Washington State.

  • You all have outdone yourselves again! the horn is just about perfect, plays like I always wished it would.
